Army Fitness Test (AFT) Guidelines & FAQs
What is the new Army Fitness Test (AFT)?
Effective June 1, 2025, the U.S. Army replaced the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) with the Army Fitness Test (AFT). The primary physical updates include the removal of the Standing Power Throw (SPT) event, refining the testing battery down to 5 core events to evaluate combat readiness.
What are the 5 events of the AFT?
The AFT consists of five sequential events: Three-Repetition Maximum Deadlift (MDL), Hand-Release Push-Up (HRP), Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC), Plank (PLK), and the Two-Mile Run (2MR). Each event has a maximum value of 100 points, making the maximum standard score 500 points.
How does the Sex-Neutral Combat Standard work?
Soldiers serving in 21 direct combat Military Occupational Specialties (such as 11-series Infantry, 19-series Armor, 18-series Special Forces, 12B Combat Engineers, and 13F Fire Support) are evaluated under a sex-neutral, age-normed standard. In these roles, all soldiers regardless of gender are graded using the same points scale, requiring a minimum of 60 points per event and a total score of 350 points to pass.
What is the standard for non-combat support specialties?
Soldiers in support or combat-enabling specialties operate under a sex-normed and age-normed standard. This standard requires a minimum of 60 points per event and a total score of 300 points to pass, with grading thresholds varying between male and female scales.
How do permanent physical profiles affect scoring?
Soldiers with an authorized permanent profile can swap the Two-Mile Run for an alternate cardio event: 2.5-Mile Walk, 12 km Bike, 1 km Swim, or 5 km Row. These alternate events are evaluated on a Go/No-Go (Pass/Fail) basis. To pass, General standard soldiers must achieve at least 60 points on the remaining four events. Combat standard soldiers must pass the alternate cardio event and achieve a minimum average of 70 points across the other four events.
How are raw scores converted to points?
Calculations use lookup tables approved on 15 May 2025. For MDL, HRP, and PLK (higher is better), raw scores are rounded down to the nearest bracket. For SDC and 2MR (lower is better), times are rounded up to the nearest slower increment to determine points.
